Here are some interesting tips on how to avoid Viruses and Spyware! - Find out what are the most efficient anti-virus and anti-spyware software out there, usually a combination of programs work best, example NOD32 and XoftSpy. One program is very strong on Viruses and the other for spyware.
- If you are planning to install new software on your computer do a quick search on Google to find out if it is reliable software "Spyware and Virus Free". Usually if you want to install MSN Messenger, then go to msn.com and click on messenger. You could be sure 100% that that software came from a reliable source.
- When downloading or using P2P does not use a program that has spyware integrated like Bear Share or Morpheus. I recommend Lime Wire and always get it from the right source do not get copy's from pirate websites.
- Keep your windows Up-to-date, yes do all the security and critical windows updates, there is usually 1 or 2 new ones a week!
- Stay away from porn sites! Yes, these websites are infected with Trojan viruses and malware and when they infect a new user they get paid for that!
- If you download a file from P2P make sure that it doesn't look suspicious. Example: Windows_Media_Player11.exe = 16 Kb? Hello, Windows Media Player is a heavy program and should weight about 25 Mb = 25600 Kb. Also if you want a song get it in MP3 or WAB format do not get Madonna_sorry.exe
- After you downloaded a file and before you open or execute it perform a virus scan on that particular file, especially if the source is not reliable.
- Schedule regular complete system scans for both viruses and spyware.
